Sabon...

I don't believe, that I have still! not written about Sabon... I found these bottles today, as I was considering to replenish the stock, hence the empty bottles, and I apologize for that. There are more, but since i love these bottles so much, and I feel these artisan like bottles are a great fit for the kitchen, hence that's where they are.

It started off when I had come to New York right after getting married in March 2012. Like new young couples, we decided to go on a date. We got off near 9th street, to walk towards a wine place, and on our way, we spotted this quaint little store called 'Sabon'

We entered it, I still don't know why as even M didn't protest. We entered and we were invited to try some of their products, in a well like sink that you would find at all the stores, and they smelled so heavenly and felt so amazing on our skins that we immediately bought a bath salt. And there it began.

I have gone back to Sabon stores again and again, whenever I had a little budget as its not very cheap, but they do last a very long time. Also, they give you that spa like experience with their natural oils and salts. Its so good, that I don't mind treating myself once in a while.

Another Era

Do you sometimes feel that you belong to another era? Well I do, like I was particularly feeling very 1960s this afternoon. It of course calls for the 'big' hair, which I started off as a french bun, but ended up being something more interesting. I love it! and the long flickered eye, the pastel, non-shimmer colors, they all took me far far away...to Another Era!

A Weekend Brunch - and the Labor of 'Love'

A weekend brunch is very special in my house. At least one of the days between Saturday and Sunday, we need to have that. Its the time when me and M are together in the kitchen, preparing for that big meal, and chatting, listening to some loud music in the background, with and occasional dance or a jig or 2. It clearly is the fun time.

Today's was special too. I made an avocado meal sandwich.

Ingredients:

-o-4 slices of garlic flavored bread. (that's what I used, but  you can use whatever you feel like having that day).

-o- 2 avocados. Half of 1 avocado sliced rest mashed.

-o- 1 whole Oil cured red pepper

-o- 4 slices of bacon. Low fat variety

-o- 2 Eggs

-o- Salt & Pepper

-o- olive oil

Recipe:

-o- Cut 4 slices of the loaf and heat it gently.
-o- Mash the Avocados and mix little salt
-o- Cook the bacon and the 2 sunny side ups
-o- Assemble:
--o--Place the slices
--o--Drizzle olive oil
--o--Put the mashed avocado
--o--Place shards of red pepper
--o--Then Bacon,
--o--Place the 2 slices together and place the egg on top. Repeat.

Gifted

 

 This Shawl/Stole is a gift from my mother. She bought it for me when she had gone on a holiday thinking that she would gift it to me when I get married. Its amazing how lucky one can be, to be in people's thoughts all the time, even when your are not with them. I never imagined, that life would turn out so exciting and full of love. May be I am talking about the realization of love, for, it was always there. Loving parents, friends, family an now husband.

Last year when I visited India, it turned out rather sad. I lost my grandmother and a close friend. They were both suffering and were ill. But the strangest part is though I was in India at that time, I was not present in that city when it happened. When my grandmother passed away I was in Mumbai, and already had plans to visit her 2 days later. But it happened 2 days before than that. And my friend passed away, when I had left for Kolkata already. 2 days before I was supposed to. 

I have realized that I haven't been able to accept it completely. Deaths of 2 close people, together is unacceptable. Sometimes I get up in the morning thinking that, may be things could be different. But then it couldn't be, Could it?

But for now, I think of it very selfishly and want to acknowledge the people who have me in their thoughts, because I don't want to reach late this time.

I can fly

My dream is to fly, over the rainbow so high

I bought this deal on on LivingSocial for Learn to Fly at the Global Aviation Corp at Long Island in NY, and I thought that this is my opportunity. It was a 2 hour long lesson for me and M. We could choose an airport within a certain radius and we chose Bridgeport at Connecticut. It was the most unexpectedly amazing experience of my life.

I have decided to make this year the year of adventures, and surely there are more coming up. But looking at the way it has started, it looks way more promising than I thought it would be. I had an experienced instructor sitting next to me, with controls. Of course. And we cruised through the wind above the beautiful, blue Hudson. It was fabulous, and I would recommend it to everyone!

Black & Blue smokey eyes

Why should we do something conventional, something regular? Black and Blue smokey is a combination of 2 colors. Obviously, they are Black and Blue. But here, I have used black and solely that on the upper lid, and blue on the lower.

I have always wondered whether I have hooded eyes. I am still not quite sure. May be sometimes it just gets difficult to define yourself. If you think I am, then please do tell me. Anyways, I have tried to treat myself as the 'hooded eye' and applied it accordingly, and the results weren't too bad! But it will be interesting to know what you think about it?

I Heart Greek!

I love Greek food. Actually I have figured that I do, after I visited Tavern Kyclades in Astoria, NY last time. Its a Greek seafood restaurtant, and what I love about it is the the atmosphere, the quantity, which is huge, the bread and their greek wine.

 I love seafood, and we usually order for the Kyclades special platter, which has Scallops, Prawns, A white fish, and they are all baked in a traditional grill. We usually pair them with a house white or a greek local white wine.

 This time we were served a a dessert, very generously by the restaurant as a complimentary treat called Galaktoboureko. Its is Greek dessert of semolina-based custard in phyllo.See here for the recipe. Its obviously so awesomely good. Overall a great evening!

Ladakh

I don't know how did I forget about this one. In fact how could I ever forget it. This was my trip to Ladakh (India) from Manali (India) by road on bikes for a distance of roughly 350miles. And mind you this is not an easy road by any stretch of imagination. You are totally at the mercy of mother earth and harshest climatic conditions. But at the same time, please trust me when I say this, its so beautiful, that you would never forget! never ever in your life! In fact I know a lot of people who keep going back every year, year after year...

 We were 6 friends, with 3 bikes

Its amazing that how much diversity can you deal with at a distance that is even less than 350miles. I saw green plains, rolling hills, plateu desert on the peak called tanglang la. Its amazing to see how less can you expect. I can go back here again and again and then again, for the rest of my life. Would I? I dont know, lets leave that mystery alone :)

Cherry Blossom on my mind

With Spring coming over gradually, all I can think of is the beautiful cherry blossoms. I cant wait for them to bloom. I have a wide collection of pink nail polishes, and all I did was to arrange them in the order of darkest to the lightest. Then I picked the lightest and covered my nails with it. Then I moved over to the darkest and started dotting my nails randomly. About 3-4 dots at a time, then moved over to the lighter shade and so on.

Though I am not sure that this looks anything as beautiful as the lovely cherry blossoms, but then in the en I kind of liked it. What do you think?
